Privacy Policy

Last updated: 10 September 2026
The short version. Almost everything on this site runs entirely inside your browser. When you mark student work, scan answer sheets, or run a simulation, that content is never uploaded anywhere — there is no server holding it, because the tools have no server at all. The exceptions are the Google Form Creator, which needs an account and sends your material to Google to generate questions, and site analytics. Those are described below.

1. Who is responsible for your data

Teaching with Tech is a small independent site run by B. Moran, a practising science teacher. teaching-with-tech.com.

You can reach us about anything in this policy at techsavvypedagogue@gmail.com.

2. What stays in your browser and never reaches us

This matters most to teachers, so it comes first. The following tools process everything locally on your own device. No file you open in them is transmitted to this site or to any third party, and we could not access it even if asked to:

When these tools save your work, they either download a file to your device or store it in your browser's own local storage. Local storage is readable only by your browser on your machine, and clearing site data removes it. Save files you download are yours alone — keep them somewhere appropriate, as they may contain student work.

Because student work never leaves your device, using these tools does not transfer personal data about students to us or to any processor.

3. Analytics

We use Google Analytics 4 to understand which tools are used and which pages people find, so that development effort goes where it is useful. This collects a truncated IP address, approximate location (usually country or city), device and browser type, pages viewed, and certain in-page actions such as downloading a worksheet PDF. It sets cookies in your browser.

We do not use analytics to identify individuals, and we do not combine it with any other data to do so. You can prevent it entirely with a browser setting, an ad blocker, or Google's opt-out add-on.

4. The Google Form Creator

This tool is different from the rest of the site because it needs an account and sends material to Google in order to generate questions.

Account data

Sign-in is handled by Firebase Authentication, either with Google sign-in or an email address and password. We store your user ID, email address, token balance and usage counts in Firestore, so we can apply free-tier limits and honour purchased tokens. We never see or store your password.

Content you submit

Whatever you give the tool to work from — typed topics, pasted text, uploaded PDFs, or a YouTube URL — is sent to Google's Gemini API to produce the questions, then returned to your browser. We do not retain the material you submit or the forms it generates on our own systems.

Please do not upload anything containing student names or other personal details. The tool is designed for source material such as textbook extracts, lesson content and your own notes.

Payments

Token bundles are sold through LemonSqueezy, which acts as Merchant of Record and handles the transaction. Your card details go to them and never touch this site. We receive confirmation that a purchase completed, along with the associated email address, so the tokens can be credited to your account.

5. Lesson Resources

The course pages under Lesson Resources are public and read-only. Viewing them requires no account and stores nothing about you beyond the analytics described above. Embedded videos and documents are loaded from YouTube and Google Drive only when you click to play them, so those services receive no request from you unless you choose to open one.

6. Hosting

The site is hosted by Netlify. Like any web host, their servers process the requests your browser makes, which necessarily includes your IP address, and they may retain short-term logs for security and reliability. Server-side functions used by the Form Creator run on the same platform.

7. Who else is involved

Several of these operate outside the UK, including in the United States. Where personal data is transferred, it relies on the safeguards those providers put in place, such as the UK extension to the EU–US Data Privacy Framework or standard contractual clauses.

8. Why we are allowed to process it

9. How long it is kept

Analytics data is retained according to the retention period configured in Google Analytics. Form Creator account records are kept while your account exists; ask us and we will delete it. Payment records are held by LemonSqueezy under their own terms, and we keep the minimum needed for accounting.

10. Children

This site is built for teachers, and accounts are intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. Students may well use the simulations and worksheets, which is exactly what they are for — and those run entirely in the browser, collecting nothing beyond the anonymous analytics described in section 3.

If you are a teacher deploying these tools with a class, note that worksheet answers save to the browser's local storage on the device being used. On shared or lab machines, students should use the save-to-file option and clear site data afterwards.

11. Changes

If this policy changes materially, the date at the top will be updated. Please check back occasionally.
